DAVID
L. DUFF . . .
Born November 26, 1950,
in Greensboro, North
Carolina, David
Duff
grew up in Arlington
County, Virginia, where
he graduated from
Bishop
O'Connell High
School in 1969. Mr. Duff
received his bachelor's degree from
the College of William & Mary in 1973, and his law degree from William & Mary
in 1976.Following
in the footsteps of his father,
the Honorable
Charles H. Duff, who was a circuit court judge
in Arlington County for thirteen years, and
then a member of the
Virginia Court of Appeals until 2002, David Duff has been practicing law in Northern Virginia since
June of 1976. During that time, Mr. Duff has handled lawsuits for clients
in courts through the entire Commonwealth of Virginia, and in the Federal
court system.
Mr. Duff's law practice consists entirely of civil trial work, and he has presented more than 200 jury trials involving virtually every aspect of civil law. Although his practice currently concentrates in family law, legal malpractice and plaintiff's personal injury, Mr. Duff has also successfully litigated cases involving premises liability, commercial disputes and intentional torts, such as fraud and defamation.
Throughout his years as a respected trial attorney, David Duff has developed an aggressive, yet highly professional, approach to civil litigation. He insists on organization and preparation in every case he presents, whether to a jury, or to a judge; and, the verdicts he has obtained for his clients reflect such dedication.
Mr. Duff has obtained a $9 million jury verdict for a young man wrongfully detained for a year in a Barcelona, Spain, prison; a $7 million verdict arising from the increase in stock value following the merger of two publicly-traded companies; and a $500,000 verdict for the former wife of CNN celebrity, Larry King, against her condominium association following the burglary of her unit.
Mr. Duff convinced a jury that a truck driver's whiplash injury was the actual cause of his subsequent addiction to pain medication, and received a $700,000 jury verdict; that an attorney's failure to timely file a client's claim under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) warranted a verdict of $374,000; and, that another attorney's unreasonable delay in prosecuting a client's divorce action supported a jury's verdict of $210,000 for the client.
His reputation as a fierce competitor, and his success in the courtroom, has enabled Mr. Duff to frequently negotiate favorable settlements for his clients without the necessity of litigation, including a recent $1.25 million settlement for a client injured in a motorcycle accident.
Mr. Duff has earned a reputation among lawyers and judges alike of being an honest, professional and hard-working civil litigator. He has established a law firm of attorneys and support staff, which prides itself on results, not promises.
Mr. Duff is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Fairfax Bar, the American Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He has been recognized by the Richmond Magazine as a "Virginia Super Lawyer" July 2006, 2007 and 2008; one of the Washington D.C. Area's "Best Lawyer" in the Washington Post Magazine, October 2006. and 2007; and "The Best Lawyer In America" 2007 and 2008.
